strange surveys and oddly written articles

So they did a survey of AIDS awareness among college students in China. It's the usual story, although the stats seem a little more positive than the last such report I saw. But there was one line which left me thinking "Huh?":

"57.8 percent know the general consequences of contracting AIDS in terms of physical well-being"

Last I heard, the general consequences of contracting AIDS in terms of physical well-being were death. Pretty simple, really: A long, drawn out, painful death which happens much earlier than would normally be the case. And only 57.8% of Chinese college students are aware of this? Something's not quite right here....
