Perhaps what's scariest is not how visibly, palpably thick with pollution the air had gotten by Thursday. That was, in a way, to be expected, after several straight days of still, humid air. Same as last summer. Nor that the API would have maxed out at 500 yesterday- sure, the wind carries the local pollution away, but it also brings in pollution from other cities, and it kicks up all that sand and dust. No. Perhaps what is scariest is that after two straight days of constant wind the air is no clearer than on any average day. That, I think, shows best just how polluted it got this week.
